Dr. Faustus must decide. Should she repent to God or honor her bargain with the Devil? For what would you sell your soul? The devil is coming to tempt, so be prepared. Dr. Faustus opens in the Theatre Building February 23!

A woman confronts her disillusionment with the modern world and the limitations of her knowledge until a night spent practicing the dark arts conjures an enticing spirit. Dr. Faustus journeys with with Mephistophilis scouring her world for meaning, spiritual refinement and self fulfillment. Companions watch as she travels a path that could lead to eternal damnation. The battle for her soul is waged between masked angels, dancing devils, lost spirits, Heads of State, and the Pope in Rome.

This modern re-imagining of the classic tale considers the familiar story through the eyes of an intelligent, proud woman. Directed and adapted by Kristin Clippard (a second-year MFA Director and Instructor for the Theatre Department), this comedic tragedy offers a humorous, yet frightening window to the inner workings of the most ambitious soul ever to conjure the devil and then doubt if it was the right thing to do. The 1594 play, The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe is mixed with selected text from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's 1806 play, Faust: The First Part of the Tragedy. It is presented within a dark and timeless world.

The play features Graduate and Equity actor Katie Consamus as Dr. Faustus, after her recent performance as Hamlet in the UI's Theatre Production. Also featuring Brittney Swensen as Mephistophilis, Heidi Bibler, Jacqueline Sherrard, Lani Engstrom, Jessica Trauffler, and Emily Hinkler in the ensemble. The production team includes Marty Kirchmeier (Stage Manager), Chloe Waryan (Assistant Director), Janet Schlapkohl (Dramaturg), Kania Tucker (Scenic Designer), Tiana Corolla (Lighting Designer), Emily Ruiz (Costume Designer), and Stephanie Ginter (Sound Designer).

Performances in Theatre B of Theatre Building Building February 23, 24, 25 at 8 pm and February 26 at 2 pm. Free for University students with a student ID. $5 for general public.
