In 1979 Nigeria, a good man's sudden death in a hunting accident leaves his widow in a mourning chair. Their daughter, Adaku, seeks to bring honor to her community, but soon discovers the unwritten rules that govern her destiny as a woman, and even more so, as an Igbo woman.

Please be advised this play features characters with 1970s-era biases and language regarding men and women. While these views are not endorsed, they are presented to provide historical context and encourage thoughtful reflection on the progress made since then.

This reading is free and open to all.
