Robert Durham, MFA, BA
Robert is the Technical Director for the Department of Theatre Arts. He was the scene shop supervisor from 2015 to 2023, with two stints as the Interim Technical Director. He received his MFA in Scenic Design from the University of Georgia.
Rob served as Technical Director for New American Theater in Rockford, Illinois, Stages St. Louis in St. Louis, Missouri and Construction Coordinator for New Dominion Pictures, a television studio producing for Discovery Channel in Virginia. Rob also spent several years working at Virginia Scenic, a production house building national and international touring shows.
In 2005, he went to China with Warner Brothers Theatrical ventures as master carpenter to mount the world premiere of Casablanca the Dance with the LA Dance Theater.
From 2006 to 2014, Rob took a break from building scenery to focus on cabinetry and furniture. He has built furniture for the Biltmore Estate, Sierra Nevada Brewery, and Tupelo honey café. He has managed a large volume cabinet shop and had his own work featured in gallery shows in Asheville, North Carolina.
