A letter from the play's creative team
Thursday, November 16, 2023

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We write to express our deepest gratitude for your support for Iphigenia Point Blank: The Story of a Refugee and we are delighted to inform you that after a three-year delay due to the covid-19 pandemic, it will be presented at the Sheen Center for Thought and Culture in New York City on December 5, 2023.

Read more about the Sheen Center production in Broadway World.

Read about the play's University of Iowa development and premiere in Iowa Magazine.

Iowa Theatre Arts alumni actors Crystal Stewart and Shahzeb Hussain are featured in their original roles, with lighting design by Professor Bryon Winn and play by Professor Lisa Schlesinger, a graduate of the Iowa Playwrights Workshop (which she now co-directs) and the Iowa Writers' Workshop.

This project was developed in the Theatre Arts department's 2019 Partnership in the Arts with generous support from the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Arts & Humanities Initiative (AHI) Program, the Center for Institutional Advancement, and the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights.

Multitudes of UI-affiliated students, faculty, staff, and artists -- too numerous to name -- participated in and contributed to the original Partnership in the Arts and related public engagement projects from Theatre Arts, Music, Dance, Journalism, English, the Law School, the Arab Students Association, the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies, the Iowa Book Festival, Hancher Auditorium and Embracing Complexity, and the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights.

We are deeply grateful to You All.

With our sincerest thanks,

The Iphigenia Point Blank Creative Team: Kinan Azmeh, Layale Chaker, Irina Patkanian, Lisa Schlesinger, Marion Schoevaert and Producer, Nilou Safinya
